CD-ROM FOR ADOLESCENTS WITH SOLID TUMORS AVAILABLE IN
Fall 2004
February 5, 2004. Following the success of its
award-winning leukemia CD-ROM (www.kidzwithleukemia.com),
The Degge Group, Ltd., has received yet another Small Business
Innovation Research (SBIR) award from the National Cancer Institute
at National Institutes of Health to develop, complete, and evaluate
a multimedia CD-ROM for 12-18 year-olds with solid tumors to teach
them about their disease, treatment, and coping strategies.
A combination of text, videos, animations/graphics,
voice-overs, music, and games will creatively relay important
information in an interactive and non-threatening manner. This
innovative product is the first of its kind, focusing on solid
tumors. It will be evaluated in a randomized pre-post design against
a 'usual care' print handbook to determine its effect on coping
skills, feelings of control over health, knowledge about solid
tumors and their treatment, satisfaction, and acceptability. This
CD-ROM will be available for sale in Fall of 2004. For more

The May 22, 2002 public meeting on Risk
Management of Prescription Drugs, in its official meeting notice,
referenced a research article whose lead author is Judith Jones, MD,
PhD, President and Founder of The Degge Group, Ltd. The article on
"Coprescribing and Codispensing of Cisapride and Contraindicated
Drugs" was the first of three articles noted that would be available
for public viewing in the FDA Dockets Management Branch. The article
concluded in part that "The pharmacy may be an important and
underutilized intervention point to prevent contraindicated drugs
from being used together." Reference: Jones, J. K., D. Fife, S.
