Pharmaceutical Education & Research
Institute, Inc. (PERI)
Background
The Pharmaceutical Education & Research Institute,
Inc. (PERI) was established
by the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of
America (formerly
PMA) in March 1989 to provide scientific and technical
training for employees
of PhRMA member companies. PERI was officially
incorporated as
a non-profit corporation on October 24, 1989. Because
of PERI's not-for-profit
status, all programs are open to anyone in the
pharmaceutical, biotechnology,
and medical device industries, as well as related
organizations including
universities, the FDA, and NIH.
Since July 1995, PERI has operated as an independent
not-for-profit
corporation, still working closely with PhRMA on
curriculum development.
PERI is headed by Judith K. Jones, MD, PhD, and is
staffed with a group
of highly-educated professionals dedicated to
furthering the knowledge
of those working in the pharmaceutical industry.
Today, PERI offers well over 100 programs each year via
open, in-house
and distance education (web-based) courses and
workshops.
PERI's Board of Directors includes a diverse group of
pharmaceutical
and healthcare industry executives. The Board assists
with the establishment,
monitoring, and evaluation of programs and services
that enable PERI to
fulfill its mission.
PERI's educational programming is guided by our
Curriculum Committee.
The Curriculum Committee, comprised of professionals
from industry, provides
PERI's management with information about training needs
in the healthcare
products industry. This direction assures that PERI's
curriculum is always
timely and responsive to industry's current needs.
